The Government of Alberta has developed a temporary subsidy (financial aid) for working households with a low-income, or, for those who are between jobs. The Temporary Rent Assistance Benefit is intended to help eligible tenants afford their rent while they stabilize or improve their situation.
Households are eligible if they:
Are below local income thresholds (https://open.alberta.ca/publications/income-thresholds)
Are employed or have been employed in the last 24 months
Are not receiving social assistance, including:
- Income Support (eg. Alberta Seniors Benefit)
- Learner Income Support
- Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH)
- Guaranteed Income Supplement

🏡 The benefit is paid directly to tenants!
🏡 It is also available in Calgary, Edmonton, Fort McMurray, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat and Red Deer.
🏡 The amount is calculated based on household size and location
🏡 Households are prioritized on a first-come, first-served basis.
